The Christ Church Grammar School Old Boys' Association pays tribute to the life and legacy of Dr Alan Eggleston ('59) – a remarkable Old Boy whose lifelong commitment to public service, medicine, and regional advocacy left an enduring mark on Western Australia and beyond.
Dr Eggleston, a proud member of the Class of 1959, was a man of deep conviction and unshakable integrity.
A trained medical practitioner, he served remote communities across Western Australia before stepping into public life, first as the Mayor of Port Hedland and later as a Liberal Senator for Western Australia in the Australian Parliament.
He was a Member of the Order of Australia and was honoured as a Legend of Christ Church Grammar School, a recognition reserved for Old Boys who have made extraordinary contributions to their communities and professions.
Alan's commitment to the people of the North-West was unwavering. Known for his eloquence, insight, and compassion, he was a tireless champion for regional Australians, bringing attention to the unique challenges and strengths of remote communities. His work was underpinned by a strong belief in equity, opportunity, and the capacity for individuals—no matter their circumstances—to make a difference.
A quote from Alan captures the spirit with which he lived his life:
"It all came together in my mind when I was 11 years old; nothing stopped me doing the things I did yesterday, so, what is there I can't do tomorrow?"
Dr Eggleston's life was a testament to that philosophy—an enduring reminder that determination, vision, and service can change lives and shape a better future.
The Old Boys' Association extends its deepest condolences to Alan's family, friends, and all who were touched by his extraordinary life. He will be remembered with great respect and gratitude.
