Unfinished Business – A Day to Remember
Monday, 25 August 2025

The much-anticipated Unfinished Business football match on Sunday proved to be nothing short of sensational.

Staged to honour the legacy of the 1977 First XVIII team and the season they never quite finished, the day was filled with passion, pride, and plenty of nostalgia.

On the field, the contest was hard-fought from the opening bounce. Aquinas took full advantage of a strong wind in the first quarter, surging ahead early. The CCGS Old Boys rallied with determination, fighting valiantly to close the gap and keep the game alive. In the end, Aquinas Collegians ran out five-goal winners — but the scoreboard was only part of the story.

The true triumph was the spirit, camaraderie, and community that defined the day. An extraordinary organising group worked tirelessly behind the scenes to create an event that captured the meaning of the occasion, ensuring every detail reflected both respect for the past and the joy of reconnecting.

Though heavy rain loomed, the clouds parted just in time, bathing the ground in sunshine and setting the stage for an unforgettable afternoon of football, mateship, and memories.

Andy Haslam summed it up perfectly: "While we walked away with sore and battered bodies (and perhaps a few egos), we also rekindled old friendships and forged new ones, which is what truly made the day unforgettable." The game itself was played with grit, respect, and plenty of heart, embodying the values of schoolboy football while showcasing the enduring bond of Old Boys across generations.

More than a match, it was a celebration — of history, of friendships, and of the special traditions that continue to connect us. While the final siren confirmed that victory belonged to Aquinas on the scoreboard, the day itself was an emphatic win for the CCGS Old Boys community.

Unfinished Business has now become part of our story — a reminder of the power of sport to bring people together and the enduring pride we share in being part of the OBA.
