Un Winter Lunch - July 2025
Friday, 18 July 2025

The recent UN Winter Lunch was another fantastic gathering of our oldest Old Boys — a group whose connection to the School and to one another remains as strong as ever. This special event is not only a celebration of enduring friendships but also a testament to the rich history and traditions of CCGS.

A heartfelt thank you to Halina Dorward, Director of Advancement, for her engaging overview of the PERFORM campaign, and to Luke Le Cras, Historical Custodian, for his valued presence. We also extend our thanks to Matt Craig and Ben Jones from the OBA Committee for taking the time to join us and strengthen the ties between the generations.

A particular highlight was Dean Bowker's ('55) entertaining retelling of the "Missing Chaplain" — another brilliant story from his treasure trove of school history. Dean also took the opportunity to remind us of the importance of the Pavilion Challenge, a project aimed at preserving and enhancing the sporting and social heart of our School for future generations.

About the UN Groups

The UN Groups were formed to bring together Old Boys from the 1940s and 1950s, when CCGS was much smaller and graduating classes were only a handful of boys. Many left after Year 10 to start work or learn a trade, with fewer continuing to tertiary study. The groups were founded by Peter Potter ('46 – dec), Bob Walker ('44 – dec), Ian Grose ('46 – dec), and John Milner ('45) to keep these cohorts connected and to celebrate their shared journey.

 • UNFORGETTABLES (1940-1949): Known for their resilience and spirit, these Old Boys embody the determination of their era, much like Bradman's Invincibles.

 • UNFLAPPABLES (1950-1959): A more relaxed group, many of whom left school early to work, particularly in farming. Their name reflects their easy-going attitude toward life's challenges.

These gatherings remind us that CCGS is not just about the years spent within its gates, but about the friendships and memories that last a lifetime.

We look forward to seeing the UNs again soon.
