Special thanks to visiting old boys
Tuesday, 30 November 2021
Lachlan Cooke (’07) addressed the boys at the Christ Church Grammar Senior School Assembly hosted by the Old Boys’ Association. Lockie spoke of overcoming personal challenges and the significance of visiting remote communities as a student, an experience that later influenced his career direction. The importance of building confidence through supportive communities and the value of school mates was a key message in Lockie’s presentation. In 2015, Lachlan was awarded the EY Entrepreneur of the Year for the Western Region of Australia and has represented Australia at the UN, G20 and CHOGM. Lachlan was also the founder of the Indigenous Communities Education and Awareness Foundation (ICEA). He is a past board member at the School for Social Entrepreneurs Australia and Broome Futures and is a current strategic advisor to the Kimberley Land Council. Lachlan was recently selected as the Old Boys’ nominee for the Christ Church Grammar School Council.

CCGS came up against St Mary’s in the Grand Final Mock Trial competition recently, with Tom Robins (’16) a contributing factor in the team’s strong performance throughout the season. Tom has been a dedicated mentor, meeting up to five times before each of the six trials.  “They are some of the most talented and driven young men I’ve seen and have really improved over the last 6 months. Some of the trials have involved some really complex legal principles, and it’s been good fun to work through it as a team” said Tom. “It was really high quality advocacy from both sides…the boys all said they learnt a lot and enjoyed the season immensely, so that’s the main thing!” Tom has also been a significant mentor for Year 9 students during the On Queenslea Drive (OQD) residential program. Program director, Jarrod Kayler-Thomson, praised Tom for his ‘phenomenal contribution’ to 23 OQD programs over 4 years, and thanked him for his exceptional efforts. Tom is in his second year of JD at UWA, and paralegalling at Corrs Chambers Westgarth.

Tobi Amaranti (’18) returned to Christ Church to present the Potter Cup at the Preparatory School Sports Awards Assembly today. Tobi reinforced that it’s not the win of loss in competition that you remember most, but the time spent training and laughing with mates. It was fitting that Tobi should present a Cup signifying sportsmanship and endeavour. Prep teacher Jerome Griffin was keen to welcome him back to School, as we all were.
