CLASS OF 1971, 50-YEAR REUNION
Friday, 28 May 2021

Our reunion came together on Friday 28 May at the Cottesloe Hotel where 39, mostly grey haired and/or balding, eager to out ‘story’ each other peers, finally gathered. As would be expected, name tags did help to identify some and the inevitable noise level soon resulted in many having to lean into the conversations so that story punch lines weren’t missed. What a great evening. Head Prefect of our year, David Ransom, reminded the gathering how fortunate we all were to have readily available contraception, we were not called upon to defend our shores, and we have not had to deal with the many issues our sons and daughters are now faced with. As a final tribute, a Vale list was read and a toast was given to all. Although most attendees finished the evening at a respectful hour, a number gathered around a grand piano, played by Tim Coyle, to enjoy a reminiscent ‘sing along’ well into the night. Further proceedings carried on at a room hired by Jon Blakeman, with old boys believing they were still in their 20’s! Not surprisingly, there has been no response from any of the late participants since. Special thank you to everyone who made the effort to attend (especially those who live in country areas and beyond) as well as those who could not be present. Special mention to the reunion committee of Tony Packer, Geoff Mitchell-Burden, Doug Young, Paul Rumenos and John Cramer. Good health. John Cramer ('71) |
