On the 18th of December, about 70 Old Boys from 2010 gathered at the Claremont Bowls Club to celebrate their 10-year reunion. Although slightly older, balder and fatter, the cohort came together as if no time had passed at all. Stories were swapped, drinks were shared and people reminisced on the glory days of high school. A few people even played lawn bowls. It was a with a tinge of sadness that many boys were unable to attend due to COVID restrictions, but the mood was brightened as Hywel Evans, via live-stream from locked-down London, was passed around on a mobile phone to say hi. For the benefit of those stuck overseas or interstate, speeches were made by Sam Mcginn and Dominic Donaldson, resulting in many laughs. Thank you to those boys for agreeing to speak whilst the rest of us relaxed and enjoyed ourselves instead. The evening was warm reminder of the bond that the cohort still share. Whilst sporting and academic achievements are a historic reminder of the achievements of our year group, the opportunity to gather once again reminded us of our real identity- that of an incredibly close-knit, cohesive group. It will be awhile until the next school reunion, and lives are likely to change significantly in that time. Regardless, the identity of the year group, and the memories we share, still remain.
