Richard Hassell (’83) and Professor Richard Pestell AO (’75) have been inducted as Legends of the OBA, adding to the series of alumni portrayed in poster format to inspire current students. The OBA Legends collection was established in 2012, with each poster being unveiled at Senior School Assembly as a reminder of each student’s lifetime connection to Christ Church, facilitated by the OBA. “The OBA Legends collection was conceived to inspire the current students that no matter what their interests – in sport, arts, science, music or in almost any other endeavour - there are old boys who were once just like them, who have gone on to do great things. Our hope was always to inspire the current boys by looking at those who have gone before them. I believe the introduction of Richard and Richard in their respective fields as architect and physician and medical researcher are inspiring additions as OBA Legends” said former OBA President, Adam Collins (’87). Adam was Vice President of the OBA when the OBA Legends collection was launched. Initially consisting of 12 posters under Adam’s project management, the collection continues to grow as additional worthy candidates are recognised. In 2020, nominations were provided to the OBA by old boys and, after a rigorous review process, were selected by a sub-committee based on their professional excellence, passion and leadership skills, positive influence on current students, and high level of character and integrity. The OBA would like to give special acknowledgement to graphic artist and old boy Paul Drok (’69) who consistently manages to visually capture and represent the pursuits, character and history of each OBA Legend. |
