Christ Church Hockey Club
Tuesday, 3 December 2019

Over 50 former players of the Christ Church Hockey Club met recently to ‘re-live the good old days’ and mark the 35th anniversary since the Club ceased playing as the CCHC. Amongst the guests was Club legend John Milner (’45) who at 90 years of age continues to play hockey.

David Price (’63) and his wife Christine hosted the event at the old Price family home which was the site of many after-game kegs in the 60s. Continuing the keg tradition, beer, wine (kindly donated by Kim Skipworth (’63)) and Chris Litchfield’s (’68) delicious array of finger food contributed to a successful event.

Life membership medals were presented to Christopher Litchfield (’68), Peter (Arch) Andrews (’63) and Alan Ledger (’66).

The CCHC was formed in 1930. At the Club’s 1984 AGM a successful vote was taken to merge with Old Scotch Hockey Club and Graduates Women’s Club to form Collegian’s Hockey Club. In subsequent years, Collegian’s merged with Cricketers Hockey Club to form the Westside Wolves, one of the largest and most successful clubs in the world of hockey.

Several CCHC players seemed keen to have a written history of their club. Peter Andrews is to organise this history and is seeking bits of history from everyone who has them. If you have any memorabilia, trophies, photos or recollections of the Club, please contact Peter (Arch) on 0438 521 312 or by email at peter@realgrumpy.com.
