40 - year reunion, Class of 1979
Thursday, 10 October 2019
The class of 1979 40-year reunion was recently held at the Claremont Yacht Club after a well-attended tour of the School by 1979 old boy, Mark Morrissy.

Several old boys on the tour were completely disoriented by the many significant changes, as the exterior of some buildings seemed the same but the interior layout, including the walls and corridors, had all moved. Mark explained that the forward-looking use of suspended concrete slab construction allowed for complete internal reconfiguration (well done, Peter Moyes!).

Around 45 old boys attended the reunion, including several who had left before the end of Year 12. A small informal committee attempted to find the ‘missing’ old boys, those who the Alumni Office have no current contact details for.
The evening was helped by name badges, as some old boys had changed significantly, while others seemed the same. Some of us were meeting for the first time in 40 years and pin up boards of old photos helped us link the unrecognisable man in front of us with the boy we knew back then. Several boys had grown significantly taller after leaving school, including the now tall (and still dapper) Peter Hobbs. Richard ‘Rocky’ Stone won the prize for the most hair, still having the same huge head of hair as he had in 1979. Some old boys made a big effort and journeyed from overseas or the eastern states for the event. As the night progressed, we became so engrossed in conversation that we had to be pushed out of the venue around midnight.

We hope to make the next class of 1979 reunion in five years, so keep those contact details up to date!
